Location
Restaurante Nicolás is located right in the heart of Bilbao. Near to Plaza Circular, Abando station and El Corte Inglés. It is parallel to the Gran Vía, just five minutes from the Town Hall, Arriaga Theatre and the Old District. Just 15 minutes from the Guggenheim Museum.
Opening times: Monday to Friday from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. and from 8.30 p.m. to 11.30 p.m., on Fridays until midnight.
Weekends and public holidays: from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. and from 8.30 p.m. to midnight, closed on Sunday evenings.
Closed: on Sundays from June to September, except during Festivities Week.
Type of cuisine: traditional Basque cuisine with a modern touch.

Trainee Cook at Restaurante Bermeo (Hotel Ercilla in Bilbao) and at Goizeko Kabi (Bilbao). Chef at Restaurante El Abra (Portugalete), Chef at Restaurante Nicolás (Bilbao). Chosen as Best Young Basque Cook in 1992 by the Sociedad Bilbaína.

Rustic decoration. This restaurant was founded in 1943 when its previous owner, Nicolás Goirigolzarri, established the headquarters of the "Club de los Gordos". Nicolás Fernández took over the management in 1990.

The Chef is Tintxu Fernández and the wine expert is Álvaro Fernández, who was chosen as the most outstanding "Sumiller" in the Basque country by the Magazine "Vino y Gastronomía", and was also Basque Country Champion in 2000 and "Nariz de Oro" runner-up in 1999 and 2003.
